About MatterScribe

We built the tool we wished existed.

The Problem

The court reporter shortage is real

The court reporter shortage is real. Transcript turnaround times are stretching from weeks to months. Rush fees are climbing. And attorneys are left waiting for the record they need to prepare their cases.

MatterScribe exists to close that gap.

The Team

Who's behind MatterScribe

Gabriel Sample, Co-Founder of MatterScribe

Gabriel Sample

Co-Founder

Gabriel has spent his career building tools that solve real problems for real users. He started in technical support and product management at New Relic, where he built diagnostic tools and led product to support enterprise customers. That experience led him into legal tech, where he eventually built MatterScribe from the ground up.

He designed the full AI pipeline and has talked to dozens of legal professionals along the way to make sure what he's building actually fits how they work. Based in Portland, Oregon, he spends his time outside of work hiking with his dogs and hanging out with his family.

Adam Angert, Co-Founder of MatterScribe

Adam Angert

Co-Founder

Adam has worked in family law for over 15 years — first as a paralegal, and for the last 12 as the firm operations manager at a law firm in Portland, Oregon. He's the person who keeps the gears turning: managing workflows, and making sure the day-to-day runs smoothly.

He co-founded MatterScribe to solve a problem he'd lived with for years — the friction of court audio transcription, and especially the headaches that come with .TRM files. As the non-technical co-founder, Adam brings the legal operations perspective, shaping the product around the formats and workflows that legal teams actually deal with day to day.

When he's not working, Adam spends his time with family, exploring the Pacific Northwest outdoors, and pursuing his interest in art and photography. He lives in Portland, Oregon.

Why We Built This

We didn't start MatterScribe because we wanted to build an AI company. We started it because Adam had spent over a decade watching attorneys wait weeks for transcripts they needed yesterday, and Gabriel had spent years building tools that made complex data useful to the people who needed it most. The problem was obvious. The solution just hadn't been built yet. So we built it.

The Product

AI-powered transcription built for legal audio

We're an AI-powered transcription platform designed specifically for legal audio. Upload your court hearing, deposition, or client meeting recording, in any format, including ForTheRecord .TRM files and get a rough transcript with speaker identification in minutes.

MatterScribe doesn't replace certified court reporters. We give attorneys immediate access to the record while the certified transcript is being prepared. Think of it as having a searchable, time-stamped draft of every proceeding the same day it happens, instead of waiting weeks.
